Atsuatsu Takoyaki: Kansai Flavors in Taipei's Zhongshan District

Atsuatsu Takoyaki: Kansai Flavors in Taipei's Zhongshan District

Zhongshan Dist., Taipei City

Gourmet

If you haven't traveled abroad in a while, you're probably craving local cuisine! This seemingly familiar food is completely different from the takoyaki found in night markets; it's a home-style dish for people in the Kansai region of Japan. After visiting Kansai several times, I missed this taste the most, and I finally found it! Without further ado, let's dig in!

Atsuatsu (阿茲阿茲) is located in Taipei's Zhongshan District. The Zhongshan District has been very lively since the Japanese colonial period, and still retains many restaurants serving kaiseki cuisine, izakaya, eel rice, home-style cooking, etc. If you're looking for Japanese flavors, this is the place to be.

The interior is very comfortable and spacious. Because I was afraid that it would be full if I came too late, I waited before it opened at 5:30 PM.

Takoyaki is available in 4, 6, or 8 pieces. It is recommended to order a small amount and try more varieties.

Water, cayenne pepper, and shichimi pepper are available in the store for self-service.

I ordered 3 flavors this time.

Green Onion flavor with Japanese mayonnaise

Signature flavor with takoyaki sauce + bonito flakes

Mentaiko flavor, a specialty of Fukuoka

This is the taste I've been missing! The size of the diced octopus inside is no joke.

Osaka-style Okonomiyaki

Okonomiyaki must be topped with plenty of okonomiyaki sauce and Japanese mayonnaise to be authentic.

While eating, the place quickly filled up. It's definitely the best choice to come early and wait if you don't have a reservation.

The name Atsuatsu means freshly cooked or hot in Japanese. Looking at the takoyaki sizzling is really healing.

Here's the bill for this time. The generous Atsuatsu does not charge a service fee.
