Jiang Niu Lou: Japanese-Run Innovative Beef Noodle Shop, A New Choice for Dadaocheng Cuisine

Datong Dist., Taipei City
Gourmet
Dihua Street is a great place to buy New Year's goods and dried goods, and it is also a must-visit place for tourists. In addition to many local snacks, there are also historical buildings. Hidden in this nostalgic street is a beef noodle shop run by a Japanese.

Mr. Tanaka, the owner, is from Fukuoka, Japan, and has lived in Taiwan for 20 years. He originally ran a ramen shop, and the beef noodles on the limited menu were very popular, so he opened this beef noodle specialty store - Jiang Niu Lou.

It can be said that Jiang Niu Lou's beef noodles were opened for Japanese tourists. In terms of seasoning, the restaurant has removed the pungent spices that Japanese people are sensitive to, especially star anise. The improved taste has been praised by Taiwanese people, subverting the stereotype of traditional beef noodles.

The interior decoration is simple and retro, the overall environment is clean and comfortable, and the service is also very attentive.

The open kitchen makes the space look more spacious, and the ramen-style counter seats are used, with only six seats.

Jiang Niu Lou has won the third place in the braised beef noodle category.

Each seat has cutlery prepared in advance, and the staff will come to take your order as soon as you are seated. Although it is a Japanese-run shop, the owner and staff are fluent in Chinese and Japanese, so you can enjoy your meal with peace of mind.

After ordering, the first thing that arrives is the cold dish box carefully prepared by the owner. The moment you open the wooden lunch box, you will definitely be amazed. If you like to take photos and share food, be sure to have your camera ready before opening it, otherwise you will regret it!

As soon as the lunch box is opened, smoke immediately dissipates, like a fairy tale delicacy. This is a cold dish, not smoke caused by being too cold, but the owner's trade secret, so just eat it!

The cold dish box contains pickled water spinach, refreshing celery and baby corn, half a cherry tomato and some spicy sauerkraut, as well as fresh wasabi to be eaten with beef.

After enjoying the cold dishes, the owner will start preparing the main course.

When the main course is served, it is once again eye-catching! This time, I happened to visit on the Lantern Festival, and the owner thoughtfully added small glutinous rice balls (festival limited), which is really a great and warm service. First of all, you must carefully taste the soup made by removing the spices used in traditional beef noodles. The soup is made by simmering beef bones and beef tendons, drizzled with a little spicy oil containing Sichuan peppercorns, and then mixed with Taiwanese soy sauce mixed with Hokkaido kelp and Himalayan rock salt to make an exquisite beef soup. It does not lose the flavor of beef noodles at all, and it is a different level of taste from traditional beef noodles.

The beef is also super thick and large, making people wonder if it is steak noodles. This thick beef is soft and flavorful, and can be easily broken with chopsticks, and the soup is completely integrated into the beef. If you feel that two large pieces of beef are too much, you can tell the staff when ordering that you only want one piece of meat, and the price will be different. This is a hidden menu!

The meat is about to separate with a gentle clip with chopsticks.

This time, I ordered the popular knife-cut noodles, and there are also thin noodles to choose from.

One more thoughtful service, the store offers a free refill of noodles once, and you can also choose thick or thin noodles when refilling. If you choose thick noodles when ordering, you can choose thin noodles when refilling, so you can enjoy the taste of two kinds of noodles at once. If you are afraid that you will not be able to finish adding a ball of noodles, you can also choose to add half a ball of noodles!

Don't forget to enjoy the beef with the fresh wasabi attached to the cold dish box. It will definitely open the door to a new taste bud. I didn't expect it to be such a perfect match.

In short, Jiang Niu Lou is a beef noodle specialty store that is full of surprises and expectations from the moment you enter the store.
