Buddha World Natural Zen Retreat: Taiwan's Fairytale Castle in Hsinchu

Guanxi Township, Hsinchu County

Sightseeing

Buddha World, a popular photo spot in Hsinchu, originally named: Fairytale World

Located on the border of Guanxi Township, Hsinchu County, and Longtan District, Taoyuan City, it was once a children's amusement park in the 1980s. The site has now become a Buddhist "Linji School" retreat, called "Buddha World," where monks and nuns have lived and practiced Buddhism for many years. Because it used to be an amusement park, there is a huge parking lot at the entrance, as well as a historical tourist sign. If you look closely, several places on the sign have already become history.

This park covers an area of more than 20 hectares and belongs to Mawudu, Guanxi Township, Hsinchu County. It was also the filming location for the 1986 Taiwanese film "New Fist of Fury" (Taiwanese version of the Fist of the North Star sequel).

Because it is located in the water catchment area upstream of Shimen Reservoir, the management unit prohibited development based on the protection of water resources, which led to its abandonment. Finally, it was taken over by Bhikkhuni Xin Chun, and the place was renamed "Buddha World," but the historical castle buildings from the former Fairytale World period still exist in the park.

After being abandoned, it was taken over by Buddhists, and Buddhist disciples live here and practice Buddhism. No new buildings have been added, and the original buildings have been preserved, making it a popular Instagram spot today.

After the takeover, the entire park was renovated to repair leaks and useful buildings. More dangerous places have been blocked off or warning signs have been erected, but historical traces can still be seen in other buildings.

Buddha World is located on the border of Guanxi, Hsinchu and Longtan, Taoyuan. Take the Longtan Interchange, connect to County Road 113, go straight and turn right onto Provincial Highway 3B, and turn left onto the industrial road leading to Buddha World.
Because we don't want people who come to visit to be disappointed, admission is completely free during the opening period, so please take your garbage with you and don't leave it in the park!
