Jinshan Old Street: A Journey Through a Century of History and Local Delights

Jinshan Dist., New Taipei City
Sightseeing
Jinshan Old Street, also known as Jinbaoli Old Street, was once a bustling commercial street during the Qing Dynasty. With a history of over 300 years, it is one of the oldest streets in Jinshan and retains many traces of its past prosperity.
The old street offers a variety of snacks, such as roasted sweet potatoes, bu rou (pork fritters), taro cakes, and oyster omelets, all of which are quite famous. There are also must-buy souvenirs like "Yi kou su" (small flaky pastries) and "Ayu ma lao" (sesame brittle), as well as the well-known duck meat stalls in front of Guang'an Temple.

There is also the super popular handmade tapioca ball drink, which boasts no preservatives or artificial colors. Even the Ai Yu jelly is handmade. Almost everyone who comes here gets a cup, making it an indispensable thirst-quencher.

Quail eggs are also a favorite snack for both adults and children. These small quail eggs are very healing to look at, and the price is also very affordable, only 20 yuan per skewer, making them the best choice to satisfy your cravings.

Grilled corn is also one of the popular snacks.

Wild boar sausage is also very popular.

There is also the extremely rare dragon's beard candy, which is a memory of childhood.

Watching the sugar slowly being pulled into threads thinner than noodles by the master really requires time and skill to learn. It is truly a Taiwanese folk art.

Each ball melts in your mouth and is wrapped in fragrant black sesame powder.

There is also the old-fashioned Xuebao Ice City (Snow Leopard Ice City), which has about three stores on the old street. The store also provides seating for dine-in. If you are tired from walking and want to rest for a while, this store is a good choice.

There are many flavors to choose from. The rich and dense texture of the cactus ice cream is a must-try flavor.

Honey chrysanthemum tea is also a good thirst-quenching and heat-relieving beverage.

There are also many snacks that will fill you up and allow you to take home the satisfaction of continuing to eat.

Traditional Hakka cuisine is a must.

For taro lovers, don't miss this flavor. It is truly one of the must-buy foods every time.

The sweet taro and salty filling create a salty and sweet taste that will make you want to eat one after another.
