Tainan Deyang Gunship Museum: Explore Naval History and Sea Views

Anping Dist., Tainan City

Sightseeing

The Deyang Gunship Museum, located in Anping, Tainan, is a unique military-themed attraction and Taiwan's only gunship museum. It not only showcases the physical retired gunship Deyang (DDG-925), but also allows you to deeply understand the history, events, and naval life of the gunship through rich exhibitions.

The Deyang ship was originally a Gearing-class destroyer of the U.S. Navy. It was launched and commissioned in 1945, performed training and cruise missions for the Atlantic Fleet, and was deployed in the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. It participated in World War II. In June 1972, it participated in the Vietnam War and won the Battle Star Medal. In 1977, the United States transferred it to the Republic of China Navy and renamed it "Deyang." During its service, its main tasks included strait reconnaissance, outer island resupply escort, patrol alert, and various exercises, guarding the safety of Taiwan. In December 1989, the Wu Jin III modification project was carried out, changing from DD-925 to DDG-925 (missile destroyer), and in December 1994, Hsiung Feng II anti-ship missiles were added. In 2005, the Deyang ship was officially retired and is the only fully preserved gunship among the old Yang-class gunships. In 2009, it was officially berthed at Anping Port in Tainan and transformed into a gunship museum, open to the public.

The exhibition of the Deyang Gunship Museum is divided into two parts: the inside and outside of the ship. The interior of the ship retains most of the original equipment, including the combat command center, officers' and soldiers' quarters, dining room, and engine room. Visitors can enter these areas to experience naval life firsthand. In addition, the museum also has text, pictures, models and other displays to introduce the history, performance and missions of the Deyang ship.

The exterior of the ship displays the Deyang ship's weapons and equipment, including cannons, missile launchers, and torpedo launchers. You can observe these weapons up close and understand their performance and purpose.

Visiting the Deyang Gunship Museum allows you to not only learn about the history and events of the gunship, but also experience naval life firsthand. Walking through narrow passages, climbing towering decks, and feeling the sea breeze, it feels like you are on a real gunship. In addition, the museum also has interactive experience areas, allowing visitors to simulate the operation of gunship equipment and increase the fun of the visit.

The Deyang Gunship Park is not only suitable for military enthusiasts, but the areas such as the battle cannons, radar room, and captain's room that are open inside the ship are also full of educational significance, making it a unique attraction for family and friends to travel. Come and visit in the afternoon, and you can also enjoy the sunset and night view at dusk, and feel another beautiful appearance on the gunship.
